Mona Question

What affect does Naomi have on Callie and how does that affect Mona and her family?

  1. When Callie goes off to college, her roommate, Naomi, has an immense effect on her. When Callie comes home, her views on life and they way her family lives has completely changed. Her opinions become more harsh; she expresses them more precisely. The family begins to realize that "Now that [Callie's] at practically Harvard... she seem to have points to make, [and] ideas to advance..." This affects Mona's family because Callie begins to question everything; therefore, during her stay back at home, she has many heated discussions about life and how her family is living. She argues about the christmas tree being a symbol of oppression, and her views against imperialism.
